Energy Plus Houses 2013

Wiltshire

175m2 Energy Plus, Solar Enhanced, Passive House in Wiltshire with 6.5kWp of PV built in 2013/14 for £175k. The 107 SAP rating (100 is Zero Energy) confirms it generates sufficient excess energy to power the clients electric car.

When the energy generated by PV is included, the PHPP (energy usage calculator) shows an incredible negative annual energy usage of -35kWh/m2.annum. This compares favourably with the total energy (55kWh/m2.annum) a regular Passive House uses for heating (15kWh), lighting (20kWh) and hot water (20kWh).

A Clina ground loop connected to the Under-Floor heating manifold cools the house very efficiently in summer using 10 Degree@ 1m deep ground water. The house was built using the Passive Slab Foundation system and Twin-Wall Timber Frame Construction method with wall, floor and roof U-values of 0.10W/m2.K and Air tightness levels of 0.45ACH@50Pa.

A group of 6 Architects visited this house in Aug 2014, one of them asked how much extra this house cost to build over a traditionally constructed house, when Jeremy showed him his construction costs the architect said "that's 10% cheaper than a traditionally constructed house in this area". This ties in well with our mantra "Make it simpler, make it cheaper, make it better!"

Devon

This Code 6 Social Housing Development of six houses was completed in Devon in 2013/14 on a tricky sloping corner site using stepped Passive Slab foundations. Combining Passive House construction with a Solar PV-T roof enables the houses to generate more energy than they consume.

The houses were built for £1,100/m2 using our Passive Slab Foundation system and Twin-Wall Timber Frame Construction method delivering Cold Bridge free wall/floor/roof U-values of 0.10W/m2.K and average Air-tightness levels of 0.48ACH@50Pa. FreshR Ductless/Filterless HRV simplifies ventilation and improves efficiency.
